What it is
A strong dark beer from the Baltic, usually cold-fermented, combining porter's roast and dark fruit with lager smoothness. The alcohol is substantial but rounded, and the roast stays restrained next to a stout. Long cold conditioning is what makes the strength disappear.
Flavor
Room for spice or earthy/woody.
Bready/biscuit, toasty, dark fruit, chocolate, coffee/roast and sweet/honey, with room for grainy or caramel.
Clean, with room for fruity esters.
