Description
Dark crystal pushed far enough that the caramel turns into burnt sugar, raisin and a hint of bitterness. Use it at 2-5 percent for depth in old ales, dark milds and strong bitters rather than for sweetness. This is the darkest of the four crystals Crisp sell — Dark Crystal (Crystal 400) in Britain, Crystal Extra Dark 120L in the States — and the published band puts it at 169.5 °L, a little above the 150 the id was coined from.
